Montepulciano and surroundings

Santuario della Madonna delle Querce

Montepulciano and its surroundings are rich in places of worship of the Catholic religion and it is possible to find many interesting elements for historical, cultural and tourist itineraries linked to faith and spirituality, including the Sanctuary of the Madonna delle Querce. Its origins date back to miraculous events linked to the cult of a Marian image. On 6 June 1690, a certain Antonio di Giulia Rossi, passing through the woods of the Querce area, was thrown from his horse. Believing the place to be haunted by demons, he deposited an image of the Madonna in a hollow in an oak tree. Since then, miracles of healing occurred and the Sanctuary of the Madonna delle Querce was built.
